Understanding GPA Calculation
A Grade Point Average (GPA) is an internationally recognized metric used by high schools and universities to summarize academic achievement. It translates varying letter grades or percentages into a standard 4.0 scale.
To calculate GPA, each letter grade is assigned a numerical value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0). This value is then multiplied by the course's credit hours to determine the total "grade points" for that class. Finally, the sum of all grade points is divided by the total number of credit hours attempted. This produces a weighted average that accurately reflects both the student's performance and the course load.
